Flett Bertram is a textiles designer specialising in embroidery, embellishment, and fabric development. She completed her BA (Hons) in Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles at London College of Fashion before being awarded a QEST Hedley Foundation Scholarship for an MA in Mixed Media Textile Design at the Royal College of Art in 2014.

Flett’s work is inspired by mementos, particularly Victorian hair and jewellery pieces. She loves to use soft materials such as taffeta and chiffon, deconstructing them to create intricate knotted tassel adornments.

Flett has worked with a range of luxury fashion brands such as Erdem, Monsoon and Alexander McQueen, and worked on textiles-based projects with Save the Children and The National Trust. She won first prize in the Fashion Design Council’s Young Designers Competition in 2008 and was awarded the Hand & Lock prize for Hand Embroidery in 2010. Flett was also selected for Texprint 2014 and exhibited her work at Premiere Vision in Paris where she lived and worked for many years.

Flett is an artist and illustrator in addition to her work in textiles. She aims to express the speed and vitality of the fashion industry in her illustrations, conveying a sense of something always moving and never quite finished.

Starting at HCA in 2022 as BA (Hons) Textile Design course leader, Flett now shares her extensive knowledge with her students pushing innovation across a range of material, fashion and developing textile industry’s.
