Clare Woods is a painter who was born in Hampshire and studied at Bath College of Art and at Goldsmith’s College in London. Since leaving Goldsmith’s she exhibited extensively in the UK, Europe and the USA and was shortlisted for the Beck’s Future Prize in 2001.
Clare’s work predominately looks at contrast, where two extremes meet, being scared and fascinated at the same time. Here paintings have been described as points between something abstract that has lots of endless possibilities and something that is based in reality with a set of rules. She paints with enamel, gloss paint, acrylics and oils.
She has had solo shows in London, Berlin and Madrid and her work features in a number of private and national collections.
