Graduate Guide Where to go and when

Instructions for your Graduation Day – Thursday 14th September 2023

These instructions provide essential information about your Graduation Day. If you are unsure about anything at any stage, there will be plenty of staff on hand to help your day run smoothly.

Please arrive at The Left Bank, (Bridge Street entrance) between 11 am-12.30 pm, for registration. Family and guests are welcome to accompany you for registration and photographs. The registration desk will be located on the first floor so please make your way straight up the stairs when you arrive.

It is vital that you register with us before making your way to the Cathedral as you will be presented with a registration card, showing your seat number.

Once you have registered, you will be directed by Ede & Ravenscroft staff to collect your gown and have your photograph taken. Please bring your order confirmation from Ede & Ravenscroft, if applicable.

If you have decided not to order a gown and photography pack through Ede & Ravenscroft it is vital that you follow the registration instructions above.

After you have successfully registered, collected your gown and your photographs have been taken, please make your way to Hereford Cathedral for 1.30pm and find your allocated seat, as marked on your registration card. There will be plenty of staff to help you find your place.

Please be aware that guests are seated separately from graduating students in the Cathedral. There will be a guest seating area in the Cathedral, however, guests will not have individual seat numbers. If your guests have any special requirements with regards to seating/disabled access, please contact graduation@hca.ac.uk.

You will receive a Graduation Programme which includes an Order of Service for the ceremony.  When the presentation of degrees begins, you will be directed one row at a time towards the plinth.

If you have won a prize, your prize will be announced as you walk across the plinth so you will only have to go up once. Your prize certificate will be handed to you as you come off the plinth.

Once completed you will be directed back to your seat. Please note that you will return to the same row but not the same exact seat.

Once the ceremony has finished, the awarding party, governors, and academic staff will recess out, followed by the graduating students. You will be advised when to leave your seats and slowly process out of the Cathedral.  We have the honour this year of processing through the West door.

Once outside there will be ample opportunity to take photographs with your family and classmates before returning your gowns to Ede & Ravenscroft at The Left Bank.

Please join us at The Left Bank for a drink’s reception and post-graduation celebrations.

The Graduate Outcomes Surveys

The Graduate Outcomes survey is the biggest annual social survey in the UK and captures the perspectives and current status of graduates. All graduates who completed a higher education course in the UK after August 2017 will be asked to take part in the survey 15 months after they finish their studies.

Your valuable response adds to the collective voice of graduates and the results will give current and future students an insight into career destinations and development. Your responses will also help your university or college to evaluate and promote their offerings.
