Ulia was born in the beautiful Russian city of Saint-Petersburg. A 3 day conference on Library Services for visually impaired people changed the course of her life as she met her English husband-to-be there!

Following a move to England in 1999, Ulia has had a varied career in education. After completing her teaching qualification in secondary education she worked in several schools. She joined HCA in 2014 working in the Study Skills Department and loves the variety that this role brings. Ulia is a qualified Level 5 Specialist TEFL and Specialist Dyslexia teacher. Her incredible English skills prove to be very motivational for her many EAL students who aspire to have as good a command of English as she does!

Ulia’s love of different languages continues: she has recently achieved her second BA(Hons) in German and French languages through an Open University course.
In addition to EAL sessions, Ulia also supports students studying for their Maths qualifications, focusing on making the subject more accessible for those of different learning styles.

Her studies mean that Ulia’s life outside the college is very busy. Yoga, running and movement help her to stay motivated and full of energy throughout busy days at college.
