with Jess Bugler
Join HCA for a series of half day workshops that have been designed to expand the creative vocabulary of teachers in print making. These workshops will provide an opportunity for teachers to learn print techniques using an etching press, with an emphasis on processes which will enable students to develop projects at KS3 and GCSE.
The workshops have been designed to adapt to the facilities available in school and a handout with a guide for each process, materials required and where to source them at reasonable cost will be provided.
Jess Bugler is an award winning artist and qualified teacher who runs the Higher Education print workshop at Hereford College of Art.
Linocut with Chine Colle – 14 June
This workshop will explore some of the possibilities of linocut. It will focus on using line to create powerful monochrome or blended prints. Teachers will also experiment with combining these linocuts with found papers using the process of chine colle to create dynamic multi-layered prints. This will help students expand their creative vocabulary, build up a portfolio of experimental prints.
Intaglio Collograph Print Making – 21 June
This workshop demonstrates how to create stunning tonal and textural intaglio collograph prints using markboard and an etching press. The process uses easily accessible materials and offers huge possibilities for experimentation and developing individual understanding of the power of line, texture and tone.
Monotype Printing with an Etching Press – 28 June
This workshop demonstrates how to create impressive darkfield and lightfield monotype prints using damp paper and an etching press. An array of mark making techniques and found objects will also be investigated to allow students to create unique and personalised prints relevant to their projects.
