R&A Collaborations is the combined talents of photographer Richard Foot and digital media artist Arron Fowler. The collaboration was born out of an open submission for the Craft Council UK’s ‘Power of Making’ Exhibition. With their new found love of all things crafty, they soon realised that there were some fascinating stories to tell from makers about what drives them to do what they do. They specialise in making films for makers but I have managed to entice them to share their skills for Professional Application here at Hereford College of Arts.

R&A Collaborations came to work with the Textile Design students last year and the day was so successful that we invited them back again. But this time it was for 3 days and to work with not only Textile Design but also Artist Blacksmithing, Contemporary Design Crafts and Jewellery Design.

Working in collaboration the 2nd Year students were set a task to complete in one day. They had to make products from found materials and sell them for fake money to fellow students and staff (including the Principal Richard Heatly – a most discerning customer!) then they reflected on its success, or not the following week and then they were tasked with doing the same thing over a week but this time selling for real money.

They all made some great stuff in limited time and R&A Collaboration were delighted that they between them managed to raise £361.50 which will get donated to the Red Cross Nepal Emergency Fund. Well done to all, you should be proud!

Richard and Aron are both inspirational in their approach, supported by Helen Foot  Weave Lecturer and 2nd Year Coordinator, the days were superb and the students were buzzing. Roll on next year!
