Nick Buchan is a recent graduate from BA (Hons) Artist Blacksmithing who’s set up his business in Rhyader in Mid Wales where he grew up. He’s building up great contacts and working to commission, and has just designed, made and installed a garden gate and railing with his new business partner Tom.

He is also involved in a Fixers Project, which is all about giving students the chance to work at the forge and also see the possibilities of running and setting up a business in rural Wales. Six students from Coleg Powys will be spending six days at the forge with him, and Nick’s also arranged with Oriel Davies to sell any works they make.

What a project and a great opportunity for the students involved! ITV found out and decided to make a short piece for the six o’clock news. I was invited to contribute, and I was quite impressed with what I managed to say in twenty seconds! I believe in what I said; its so important in life to find something that you are passionate about and that you can commit to, and this is just how Nick feels about blacksmithing and its great to see him make the move from studying to running a business so successfully – take a look at the YouTube clip:

I loved spending the day filming and look forward to seeing how his business progresses.
