Thank you to everybody who has already entered HCA’s Young Photographer Competition 2020, we are so impressed with the standard of work.

With only a couple of weeks until the entry deadline, February half term is a perfect time to get creative and enter!

We thought we would look back over the 2019 winners for some inspiration!

Don’t forget, entries are also open for the Brian Hatton Young Artists Competition!

Category 1 – (ages 16-19)

Young Photographer Competition - This years winners!

1st Prize: Ruby Bunnett
The judges were really impressed with Ruby’s entry and commented that it is ‘unusual and striking in its simplicity’ and ‘very contemporary’.

2nd Prize: Clara Langrick
The judges loved Clara’s image of a ‘wonderful character, well known in Hereford’, stating that the image is an ‘exceptional portrait’ & ‘captures the essence’.

3rd Prize: Sarah Taylor
Sarah’s entry wowed the judges and they said it was a ‘nicely constructed and rather haunting image’.

Highly Commended: Daisy Simpson
The judges commented that Daisy’s entry was a ‘fabulous, exuberant constructed image’ & ‘visually intriguing’.

Category 2 – (ages 12-15)

1st Prize: Lucy Smith
The judges awarded Lucy’s entry with 1st prize for this category, commenting that the image has ‘lots of urban atmosphere’, ‘capturing the time/mood perfectly’.

2nd Prize: Mollie Hales
Mollie’s entry impressed the judges with them commenting that the image is ‘intriguing and beautifully put together’ with textures that ‘grab you’.

3rd Prize: Michael Davies
The judges really liked Michael’s entry as it is ‘atmospheric’, ‘sinister’ & ‘a good example of looking at what is around you’.

Highly Commended: Kelsey Miller
Kelsey’s image was selected as Highly Commended for this category. The judges commented on the great timing in the image which is ‘full of life and colour’.

Category 3 – (ages 9-11)

1st Prize: Poppy Emmett
The judges loved Poppy’s entry, praising the entry for being ‘beautifully composed’ and ‘surreal in executions’, also commenting that the image is ‘good fun’!

2nd Prize: Charlie Dallow
The judges were impressed by Charlie’s image, commenting that it is ‘visually interesting’ and has an ‘intriguing viewpoint’.

3rd Prize: Charlie Miller
Charlie’s entry wowed the judges as a ‘happy image’ with ‘great colour and shapes’!

Highly Commended: Leon Stevens
The judges commented that Leon’s entry is a ‘superb shot’ with ‘fabulous energy and mood’.

The 2020 competitions will culminate with a joint Awards Night and Exhibition Celebration with the Brian Hatton Young Artist Competition on 13th May 2020, 5.30pm at our Folly Lane Campus. All entrants are invited, along with family and friends. We look forward to seeing you there!
