Rebecca Davis talks about the Gravity Lecture given by Melanie Thomlinson on Thursday 22/01/15 at HCA and the tutorial she had with Melanie.

“The lecture given by Melanie Thomlinson took us along the journey of how she had progressed within her own practice from completing her MA in Illustration to her current jewellery ranges, affordable art and gallery exhibition work. Using metals which are printed and illustrated with her own designs, she makes craft objects and mechanical, kinetic artworks inspired by insects, birds, folklore and her passion for the natural world. She also spoke about the role of the artist in community projects.

After her lecture, I had an individual tutorial with Melanie giving me an insight into some of the techniques she uses, how to present my work and how to approach galleries. Her enthusiasm, use of colour and technical experience is what I found helpful in relation to my own practice.”
