First year BA (Hons) Textile Design students were given a brief at the end of the summer term to design and make cushions for the Café at College Road Campus. They had to do four designs each and then choose two of these to screen print and make up in to covers.
Students worked with Becky Roberts and I in the Textiles Workshop at College Road, and they were shown two ways of constructing a cushion cover and how to make the pattern for it. They selected and mixed their colour pallet together as a group, so that everyone’s cushion worked cohesively to formed part of the collection.
The stencil method of screen printing was used, they cut their designs out of newsprint and acetate, and then used a blank screen to flood their designs with their chosen colours.
The chosen cushions will be selected and displayed on the sofas in the café. Prizes will be given to the most successful and well accomplished design!
We think it’s going to be VERY hard to pick a winner. Good luck everyone!
