Alumni Focus – Chris Hughes

I have not heard much from Chris Hughes since he graduated two years ago, but was delighted when a work colleague handed me this month’s Federation of Small Businesses’ magazine, featuring Chris fire welding on the front cover. Inside is an article about three graduates from different craft disciplines, discussing how they have turned their craft into a small business.

There were several great photos of Chris throughout the article and he described his journey from graduation through to making small forged objects (which he sells through online retailers including Etsy) through to larger commissions.

The story was also picked up by several regional newspapers including the Birmingham Post, and it seems like Chris has had a fortnight of being photographed constantly.

It’s great to see graduates succeeding in setting up their workshops and businesses so quickly after graduating.  Well done Chris!
