At the moment our students are working on projects that they have written and are realising independently.  We are excited to be only weeks away from the deadline for our Foundation Diploma and Portfolio students to complete their final major projects and submit their work for assessment and in preparation for a public exhibition to mark the third and final part of their course.

As well as high energy and intense industry, this time of year offers a period of reflection for all of our students. We asked them: “If you could go back in time and speak to yourself a year ago, at the point of applying for the Foundation Diploma Course, what would you say?”

Here are just a few of the tens of positive responses that we have received:

Hereford College of Arts Foundation Diploma Art & Design

“This course has prepared me for university study even more than I had anticipated. It helped fill in the big jump between A-level and Degree level. I now think very differently in terms of creating ideas because I have learnt there is no right or wrong answer.”

“Now that I have done this course, I feel a lot more confident and ready to move onto university because I have had the opportunity to polish my existing skills as well as developing new ones by trying out different processes”

“Working in a real studio environment is an important aspect of the creative process and I wouldn’t have experienced it before university if it hadn’t been for taking the Foundation course”.

“The course also helped me gain certainty of the Higher Education path that I wanted to take because I had the opportunity to try out a wide range of practices which allowed me to distinguish what I did and didn’t like.”

“Try not to overthink things, don’t worry. Just remember that you are doing this course for a reason, and everything will work out in the end.  Be grateful that you get a place to study here, it is an amazing opportunity.”

“This course offers you amazing trips; we have been to London, Berlin, Liverpool. You will work hard but you will become independent and free. The tutors are lovely and are there to help.  There are so many opportunities and there is inspiration all around.”

“This course is a brilliant bridge between A-Levels and University so you can work out what you really love to do and become far more confident when talking about your own work. This course has helped me realise that the possibilities are endless for what I want to do and that nothing that I want to do is wrong.”

“Keep an open mind, the specialist workshops facilities offer brilliant opportunities.  The Course is really helpful when finding university courses, you will find yourself.”

“Definitely apply to this course!! You will make so many good friends and learn so much.  Try to keep an open mind when using new techniques and processes, trying something new isn’t the same as abandoning your interests.”

“Accepting my place on the Foundation Course is the best decision that I have ever made.  Although I was thinking of doing an academic course at university because I was worried that there aren’t any jobs in the Arts I took the place on the course to decide and the experience has opened my eyes to how many careers are Art based.  It has been a lot of fun and the facilities are fantastic, you have to definitely apply!”

Many of you have already accepted your place but if you haven’t made up your mind yet, then we are here to help. We warmly invite you explore the Final Exhibition of the 2014-15 cohort with us at an Open Day for prospective students on Saturday the 13th June from 12 noon to 3pm, as part of our Summer Show celebrations.
