Opening and flicking through the latest issue of the Artist Blacksmith magazine (Issue 147) it occurs to me that it’s a little bit like a Where’s Wally? puzzle. Only this time it’s a There’s Ambrose puzzle as he appears so regularly throughout the magazine!

He first appears in the index where there is a great picture of him with Sam Pearce forging at the World Forge Championships in Stia. He appears again on page 12 in an article all about last summer’s BABA Conference and AGM, hosted by the Yorkshire Sculpture Park where Ambrose was one of the key speakers and demonstrators. He graces the pages for the final time on page 28 in an article all about the prizewinners at the Biennale Europea d’Arte Fabbrile Stia.

It’s also difficult not to notice all the other pictures of recent graduates from the degree course at HCA.  Featuring on page 4 are the BABA events team, two of whom are recent graduates (Tim Puddephatt and Jack Waygood) and on page 14 there are two great images of Matt Garton working with Ian Moran, who is one of the demonstrators at the event. On page 16 there is Sam Pearce at the AGM, making a bench in collaboration with Ben Laycock and again on page 17 Simon Bushell, another demonstrator and recent graduate, is shown working with Jason McCabe. The article on pages 28 and 29 is all about Sam Pearce, winner of the World Forged Championships 2015.

I am so proud of what our graduates and academic staff are doing and the impact that they are making on contemporary forged metal design. I look forward to the next issue and checking out who I can spot!
