The Terror of the Galvanisers!

So much of the architectural work that we make needs to be permanently outside and finished in a way that it won’t rust, and galvanising is an excellent solution. However, there are lots of urban myths around galvanising, which are occasionally reinforced when galvanising companies run over bits of work with their fork lift trucks.

So much of the architectural work that we make needs to be permanently outside and finished in a way that it won’t rust, and galvanising is an excellent solution. However, there are lots of urban myths around galvanising, which are occasionally reinforced when galvanising companies run over bits of work with their fork lift trucks.

Therefore a trip to the galvanisers is always tinged with a fair degree of nervousness, as students put their prized final works, which often have taken months of forge time, into the back of a truck and cross their fingers, hoping that the work won’t warp, that their welds hold and that it won’t randomly be run over! I have to compliment our own local company Hereford Galvanizers on an excellent service. They are always helpful and often turn work around in short timescales ready for student deadlines and thankfully we haven’t had any fork lift incidents for some time!

Here is a pic of some rather nervous students. Inside the van we have Joe’s two gates, a gate from Max and Alex and two forged spaniels from Craig.

Let’s hope everything works out this time; its really exciting and terrifying at the same time!
