The Portal Exhibition is hosted by Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre who annually travel the UK to select the cream of this year’s graduates in the applied arts. Their aim is to search for those who are pushing the boundaries of applied art whilst maintaining and developing the traditions of their craft. The curators select makers and designers who they believe are destined to lead and shape the next generation of applied artists and the great news is that they have already selected Rhian Wyn Jones one of our graduating blacksmiths! The Exhibition runs from  August 8th- 17th October. Follow the links below to find out more:

Writing about her work Rhian says:

“I am intrigued by the idea of an object acting as a bridge between people, place, memory and emotion.
Responding to location, history and personal narrative through the creation of talismans, the oyster shell forms in steel, copper and bronze convey a spirit of place. My “atgof” installation at Llanddwyn Island celebrated memory, shared experience and treasured objects, allowing others to attach meaning and memories to their own shell”.
