Over the next three tuesdays, R&A Collaborations are working with second year students, including Artist Blacksmiths, Textile Design, Contemporary Design Crafts and Jewellery Design as part of our professional practice curriculum.

R&A Collaborations is the combined talents of photographer Richard Foot and digital media artist Arron Fowler. The collaboration was born out of an open submission for the Craft Council UK’s “Power of Making Exhibition”. With their new found love of all things crafty, they soon realised that there were some fascinating stories to tell from makers about what drives them to do what they do. They create films about makers and why they make and have continued to work very closely with the Crafts Council. Their films are extraordinary and really capture so much more than just the made object.

Check out their ever-increasing number of short films about makers across many disciplines within the crafts here.

They also have a great Facebook page that anyone interested in crafts and making should follow.

Day One was all about collaboration. Students worked in groups and had just three hours to make objects from scrap materials. After that there was a craft exhibition and sale with David Tenant designed, printed money.  Everyone had £100 worth of David Tenant currency to purchase objects from each team and a prize was awarded for the team raising the most money.

There was a real buzz and I bought a rather fabulous brooch which I am wearing today.  I look forward to blogging about what happens on Day Two and Three.  Really exciting to have visitors who come in and take a completely different approach about how you can make and generate work.  It really gets everyone thinking about what they do and how they do it.
