Reflecting on this term Holland says:

“This term has been full of turnarounds for me. I have gone from dismissing my original visions for one of my figurative pieces (and thinking I hated sampling and that it was no use) to giving in and sampling a little only to discover that my original idea was just fine! It just needed the refinement that only sampling can achieve. I have learned invaluable lessons about my own process.

Alongside this I have begun a mammoth essay which rounds up all of my research, along with detailed explanations of the symbolic and narrative aspects of each outcome. I love to write and my sketchbook is mostly analytical writing with very little actual sketching. Giving myself the freedom to work through my ideas in this way has had a really positive impact on both the quality and direction of my work and my production levels.

Having just completed one of my final outcomes, I can really start to get into the ‘theory in practice’ side of my work, and begin to record and discuss how making the piece has affected my own relationship with the trauma it represents, as well as how others relate to the piece and what connections there may be between us all.”
