Mac design suite overhaul.

HE students have been taking advantage of the updated Mac design suite facilities at College Road campus.
This year the Suite was overhauled with ten new Macintosh computers. They have joint our College Network, which means that both students and staff can use their College credentials to log in. As standard all monitors come with a custom desktop showing the list of software installed.

The room features now five new MacPro machines with 24 inch Dell monitors.
These are the professional super fast ones. At under one foot height, they feature Xeon quad-core processors and run with 12 GB of memory. Students and staff can multi-task and work efficiently by hopping between applications and work easily with large files. There is nowhere else at the College that students can work on computers with so much power!

There are also five new very slick iMacs. They feature i5 quad-core processor with 8 GB of memory. The iMacs might not be as powerful as their professional siblings, still though they can be Turbo Boosted to almost 113% if they need to. Though the feature that will strike the user at first is their huge screen real estate. They are widescreen at 27 inch (diagonal), with rich and vibrant, true-to-life colours.

All screens in the Mac design suite are colour-calibrated in-house at the College. We use the industry standard Spyder 4 ELITE calibrator. This is the same as photography and create professionals use, that require high degree of colour accuracy.

The suite features five scanners. Four Epson Perfection v750 scanners, capable in scanning photographs or designs on paper, as well as film negatives and transparencies. Also a large format scanner, Epson GT-20000 is available.

Students can use the suite to print to most large format Epson printers as well as to any of the laser jet printers available, including the Colour Photocopier.

The Mac design suite can be found on the ground floor (room a 28) at the end of the corridor by IT.
