I have been staring at a pile of books to read for my dissertation research. I find it hard ploughing through academic writing but this book is an absolute joy to me. It’s a series of 30 anthropological portraits drawn from one street in London. Because it is about the human story, their relationships to objects in their possession, I am enthralled. It is the human condition, their stories that capture me, the narrative of a life. That is what I seem to hang everything on and I can see the truth of this running through my life.

It has always been people for me.
