Congratulations to Sam McNamara, one of four BA (Hons) Contemporary Design Crafts students recently selected to participate in the acclaimed outdoor sculpture exhibition, Fresh Air. With this invitation comes a phenomenal opportunity for Sam, as her piece will be on display alongside works by prestigious makers from across the UK and abroad.

Sam’s piece is designed to capture and project light through an elegant, twisted arch of acrylic that is fixed in suspension on a steal pole. The jury was especially drawn to the piece’s use of materials to further enhance and draw attention to its surroundings via a magnification of natural light through the acrylic.

Sam’s statement about her proposed Fresh Air piece, titled ‘Revolve’:

“My creative practice explores ways to capture the beauty of the environment within a material, shape and form. Allowing the natural elements to dictate and inspire the mood of the sculpture, ‘Revolve’ transmits elegance and timelessness through its cylindrical columns. As sunlight enters the cylinders at the top, it travels down the form, settling at the ends in a burst of white light.”
