‘Jumper’ Project exceeds all expectations.

The Live Brief from Hereford Museum to the 2nd Year Textile Design students has been one of the most visually exciting projects for some time on the course. The original brief was for the students to produce work for the entrance foyer and stairwell of the Hereford Museum Wool Exhibition which takes place from July 18th. What the students did was up to them.

So, we as a team asked them to consider sustainability in fashion & textiles and how they could re-model, re-sculpt and re-invigorate three wool jumpers. Wool is indeed cool! It was a short brief, a matter of weeks and the students had to source their jumpers, sample, design and produce the three final outcomes. And what outcomes they are!

Elaine Moore was the first student to present her work to the group and we were all astounded at her level of professionalism and focus producing three garments all based upon volcanoes.

Sophie Jenkins took a very different approach and produced three jumpers, from jumpers tasking herself with the challenge of using only 3 garments and then breaking them down and re-forming them. Both Elaine and Sophie will be presenting the exhibition to our Extended Diploma and Foundation students in April.

All the students produced a wide and varied selection of work from the outlandish to the demure.

The exhibition is currently at the College Road Campus until April 17th and will then be at the Hereford Museum from July 18th. So do come along to see the stunning work – gives you a feel of the future for the course under the guidance of the new (ish) Course Leader Elinor Bishop Greenacre and her team.
