Students studying on the 1st year of the Extended Diploma in Art & Design had the opportunity in term 2 to work on a variety of projects, allowing them to explore the diverse areas of study within art and design. This allowed them to explore in depth an area they may want to follow in year 2 when they start specialising.

Following  presentations by tutors, students could choose form a variety of projects. The projects included:

  • A 3D project exploring jewellery (see previous blog).
  • A fine art project exploring dreams.
  • A textile project exploring the theme of tribal.
  • A graphics project exploring branding and information graphics.

The work shown here is the spatial design / illustration project run by Dermot Clarke This project introduced students to spatial design, in this case redesigning the college library. Students were taught how to measure a space and draw up plans and elevations. They also learnt about scale and perspective, interior design and creating visuals. The project also developed the students drawing, illustration and IT skills. The results were a series of imaginative designs that took into consideration the function of the space and its design potential.
