Hereford has thriving and exciting creative community. Here, you get the best of both city life and rural living. In this weeks blog we have listed some student favourite pubs & clubs which you will be sure to visit when you join HCA!
HCA Bar night
Pre lockdown, HCA ran weekly themed bar nights for our students such as Pizza & Quiz night, Curry & Drawing Night & Open Mic nights at our College Road Campus. We really hope that we will have these up and running again by September. Our Bar Nights are a great way to enjoy your favourite drink whilst getting to know other students on campus.
Pubs – Student Favourites
A favourite amongst students featuring cheap pints, live music, alfresco seating – their outdoor heaters make The Barrels a firm favourite all year round! The Barrels hosts the hugely popular annual beer festival in aid of local charities. This is often where nights out begin and no doubt you will always find someone you know hanging out here.
The Beer in Hand is a family owned, independent pub known for selling unusual beers, ciders, wine and craft spirits. Take a look at their website to find out more. They also have a click and collect service for the nights when you’d prefer to stay in!
The Britannia features a really big beer garden, perfect for those sunny afternoons (when you aren’t in lectures!) With a variety of ales on tap, its well worth a visit.
Places for Dancing
If you are all about the dancing, you may want to check out The Venue Hereford which often has Live DJ’s and drinks deals for you and your mates. You may also want to visit the newly refurbished Play Nightclub which is open on Fridays and Saturdays and offers itself as the best, biggest place to party in Hereford! Rubix Bar is one for the 80’s lovers, and is bound to have you up on their light up dancefloor!
Live Music
The Left Bank Village is located along the river not far from Hereford Cathedral. Within this village you can find, De Koffie Pot, Charles’ Bar and the Speakeasy. All unique in what they have to offer yet they all have a familiar relaxed and enticing atmosphere.
First Thursday of every month the Speakeasy host Power up promotions, a music event put on by a group of local musicians in Hereford. The genre changes every week but guaranteed you will hear something new! The Speakeasy is also home to comedy nights, psychic nights & more.
Gordon Bennetts is a locally owned live music venue in the city centre and has live music every Friday and Saturday night, featuring a variety of different genres, Gordon Bennetts has something for everyone.
Visit The Queens Arms for a different type of live music – karaoke! Enjoy a game of pool with your mates whilst you are visiting too.
Out of Town Pubs
Although there is plenty to see and do in Hereford City Centre, there are some hidden gems on the outskirts of Hereford which are also a firm favourite with our students and locals alike:
The Secret Garden is located on the outskirts of Hereford City Centre and poses as a modern country pub and live music venue. Well known for its Tapas, its a great place to visit with friends. Check out their “Secret Village” pods if you would like an area to yourselves!
Located in Mordiford, the Moon is a great little pub to visit for some food and (or) a drink, especially if you have been hiking around the Mordiford Loop. Their Sunday roasts are also very tasty!
The Bell Inn is located out in Tillington, offering a varied menu and many local ales and ciders on tap. Be sure to check out their desert menu if you visit, you will not be disappointed! If your heading out towards Tillington, you may want to check out Court Farm in the Autumn if Pumpkin picking is your thing!
Located on the banks of the River Wye, the Bunch of Carrots is a great pub to visit before or after a walk along the river. There is huge outdoor area, perfect for the Summer time!
