Eating & Drinking

We are proud to be part of a city which continuously celebrates an ever growing indie food culture. The county has always been famous for its cider apples and Hereford beef and we are currently seeing a surge in gin producers too! Here are some of our favourite places for students to enjoy some good grub and a tipple.

The Beefy Boys – famous for their award winning dirty American style burgers, the Beefy Boys is now permanently situated in Hereford City Centre.

The Yard – A Rule of Tum – The Yard is an urban eating and drinking space in the heart of Hereford, bringing festival vibes all year round!

The Orange Tree – The perfect place for a catch up and drinks with friends.  Thursday night is open mic night, featuring local artists and anyone else who fancies a sing along!

Babar Cafe – Known for celebrating different cultures, Babar promises a vibrant and exciting food menu, which is also committed to ensuring that that gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian & vegan options always available. Babar is a huge supporter of the local art scene, with regular exhibitions.

De Koffie Pot – Located on the banks of the River Wye, De Koffie Pot is a firm favourite cafe-bar in Hereford come rain or shine! Not only do they offer an extensive food & drinks menu made up from locally sourced produce, De Koffie Pot is well known for its Life Drawing Classes and a monthly book club!

Things to Do

Galleries

Apple Store Gallery showcases a broad range of artworks including paintings, drawings, photography, sculpture and much more, featuring regular exhibtions. Located close to the bus and train station, this gallery is easily accessible for all.

Meadow Arts is an inspirational contemporary art charity delivering ambitious and accessible projects in unexpected rural places. They bring work by artists who usually exhibit in galleries in major cities in the UK and abroad to local spaces, where the artwork can reach new audiences.

Canwood Gallery is a charity gallery, located in in Checkley, on the outskirts of Hereford. The gallery was set up with the goal of showcasing fascinating art within the wonderful countryside of Herefordshire – all profits are donated to St Barts Charity.

Museums

Hereford Museum and Art Gallery The museum has been exhibiting artefacts and works of fine and decorative art connected with the local area since 1874. Although the exterior of the building has changed very little, the museum and gallery have kept up with the times, it is well worth a visit if you are particularly interested in finding our about the history of Hereford.

Beryl Bikes

Explore and discover Hereford by bike – you will find Beryl bays placed throughout the city making it easy for you to pick up a bike wherever you may be! At HCA we are excited to have a newly formed collaboration with Beryl Bikes, featuring the following benefits:

Whether you are popping to the supermarket to pick up the essentials or browsing for the perfect gift, we are almost certain that you will be blown away with the diverse range shops that Hereford has to offer. Along with high street favourites such as Next, TK Maxx and we are lucky to have a range of independent shops that call Hereford their home. Here are some of our favourites:

The Shop @ Coo Corner is a boutique shop, showcasing local makers and artisans. Located in the village of Fownhope, there is also a café so that visitors can sit back and relax with a coffee and enjoy a freshly baked homemade cake if they wish.

Secret Bottle Shop is an independant wine and spirit business, offering unique and exclusive products that suit everyone and everything.

Earthing Zero Waste have a mission to change the world by minimising our carbon footprint. All products sold at Earthing are vegan, eco friendly, sustainable and natural. Shop here for food refills, cleaning product refills and a wide variety of eco friendly products.

Printer + Tailor established in 2002, selling interior goods & gifts including home accessories, books, prints, stationery, textiles and clothing. This shop is one for lovers of artisan craft and good design!

The Butter Market is a hidden gem, right in the heart of Hereford city centre! There is something for everyone here, with over 35 individual market stalls each offering something a little bit different to the next.

Piglet Lifestyle is home to a handpicked selection of environmentally friendly fashion and home products, located on Trumpet Corner. Their ethos is to offer sustainable and organically sourced fabrics throughout their fashion ranges and the range of rugs and throws they have are made of 100% recycled plastic bottles.

Hereford is also surrounded by many market towns with even more shopping – you will be spoilt for choice. We recommend taking a trip out to Hay-on-Wye, Ludlow and Ledbury!

The Loft is an intimate, independent cinema in Hereford city centre, offering a variety of films from all genres & decades, made locally, nationally & globally. Matrix Hereford 

A new venue for all things fun! Activities include arcade, laser tag, mini golf, axe throwing, party rooms and of course a café to enjoy.

The Courtyard

The Courtyard is Herefordshire’s centre for the arts, providing a space for innovation, creativity. There is something for everyone at The Courtyard, from comedy shows to visual art exhibitions – you are sure to find something of interest to you!
