The words “Workshop” and “Will” are now synonymous! Over recent weeks Will has focused on the technical development and refinement of his making skills in metal and worked to create functional resolutions in relation to connections and fixings. There is an intelligent use of material and process to inform and indeed create and develop the design concept and the visual aesthetic. The work which centres around an investigation of industrial materials, the exploration of architectural principles in context to jewellery and a reflection on the issue of what is “precious” demonstrates the underlying principle that theory and practice inform each other. The prototypes which are currently being developed play with the tension between the hard, cold, polished cut metal which sandwich the irregular, broken, aggregate slices of concrete block.
