Alumni, Angela Howard who studied Fine Art at Hereford College of Arts visited the 1st Years recently to deliver a Drawing Workshop. Angela is a painter primarily excited by organic growth and natural forms. Her ideas and work are based around her own perception of nature and surroundings  “I am particularly attracted by the gorgeousness of the shapes, forms and colours all around us,  it is this starting point that provides a catalyst for my art”.

As part of their Textile Drawing Module, Angela worked with the students to develop their use of colour, observational technique, layering and got them to explore materials and their own strengths within drawing.

The outcomes were superb (more to follow once I have assessed it all next week!).

Angela is based at the Artsite 3 Studios in Hereford:-

‘Artsite3 is a not for profit unit of studios with a diverse community of professional artists and designers located in central Hereford….Housing creatives working in a range of specialisms including illustration, textile design, ceramics, fine art, mixed media and print making, the studio has evolved to become a sought after working environment.

Artsite3 maintains close links with Hereford College of Art & Design,  offering a yearly award to a graduate of the college comprised of a free studio space for a year. Awarded on commitment and passion for their practice, the prize provides the graduate with the opportunity to develop their professional career alongside a community of artists and designers. To date, the majority of winners have gone on to take up permanent spaces within Artsite3.’

We shall definitely be invited Angela back next year to work with our new first years!
