We invited a second group from the Foundation and Portfolio courses at Hereford College of Arts Folly Lane FE Campus on Friday to a Textile Design Taster Day.The day focused on experimentation, creativity and exploration of materials to produce small collections based upon found objects.

17 students joined us to discover how they could produce a cohesive collection of designs from what is, to all intents and purposes, a pile of rubbish. Using scrap from the Gloucestershire Resource Centre the students had to randomly select 5 materials (to stop them selecting what they liked!) and quickly produce a range of small, instinctive design pieces which they then shared with the group via a Group Crit.

Once they had completed this initial activity they were then able to use their own sketchbooks and research to develop a small collection of designs which linked well but explored scale, texture and imagery in a creative way.

The results were stunning! Another fantastic Taster Day here in Textile Design. If anyone is interested in booking one of our Taster Days then please don’t hesitate to email Doug Norton on d.norton@hca.ac.uk.

See ya!
