The third years have summative assessment coming up, so it’s great to see their spaces full and objects coming together and being finished over at the forge. Rory is making a series of wall pieces for this assessment, inspired by nature and combining mild steel and copper.

Rory says, “My initial inspiration included investigating structures such as bubbles, bones, leaves and insects.  From this resource, I found several areas of interest to explore in forged metal including colour and tessellation of shapes”.

Rory has tested and explored lots of surface treatments within this module, including a whole range of rich patinas. He is current;y busy resolving fixings and I am looking forward to seeing his final pieces installed in the main hall for assessment in a few weeks time.

All in all, it’s a really exciting time for third years as they move towards the culmination of their studies.
