This year we decided to take a different approach to the way that we deliver the first part of our professional practice module in the third year of our degree in Artist Blacksmithing. We decided to bring Pete Moseley in to work with our students for an intensive, five days.

Peter is a professional business mentor and coach, who gives workshops to early and mid-career makers across the UK. He is also the author of several exciting and relevant publications, including The Art of Shouting Quietly.

The students had five days to work with Pete to complete the first stage of their business planning. The feedback was really positive, with many students commenting on how empowering the sessions had been and how they could clearly see and begin to plan the next stage of their careers after College.

Pete had a great time too and wrote an entry in his LinkedIn account all about his time at the College.

Pete writes, On a recent visit to Hereford College of Arts – a favourite of mine because it has retained a lot of the character of the old-style, independent art college, and crucially because it places importance on providing key support around post-college survival and sustainable practice.

Students were inspired, Peter had a great time, and thank you Pete for recognising and acknowledging one of our key strengths, because employability and entrepreneurship is at the heart of everything we do.
