Earlier this week I had the opportunity to catch up with our Performing Arts Young Enterprise Team. A group of second year students have come together to pool their talents, share ideas and support each other in setting up their own small business. They have called themselves the Singers in Waiting Company, offering their services as singing waiters at dinners, parties and events.

Entrepreneurial activities are an important part of every course at the College, as they support developing our students employability skills and prepare them for gaining employment, or indeed setting up their own businesses in the future.

Performing Arts look to combine their love of performing with business, understanding the importance of being business savvy in what they do and attach participation in the Young Enterprise Company Programme to their course business unit.

In previous years teams have faired well, winning awards that include Best Presentation at the Young Enterprise Herefordshire Finals and this year’s team have set their sights high on achieving their own awards.

I was invited to attend their weekly catch up and talk to them about the College’s Annual Business Networking Event on Wednesday 25th November. Highlighting the importance of promoting their business and the value of networking, I shared with them some ideas and the team were keen to attend and promote themselves.

Opportunities to work with students and share in their enthusiasm reminds me why I love the job I do. If you would like to find out more about the Singers in Waiting Company you can meet some of them at the business event next week or alternatively, drop them an email if you’re interested in using their services, perhaps to add something a bit different to this year’s Christmas party!
