After pizza (which really should have been paella) and fresh juice at one of our favourite new hang outs – Shack Revolution, HCA Business had the pleasure of attending Zorro last night at The Courtyard. Retelling the legendary story of good versus evil, with beautiful aerial acrobatics and set to the music of the famous red-hot Gypsy Kings we were transported back to California in the 1800’s.  Performed by our Extended Diploma in Performing Arts students, as part of their end of year assessments, Zorro did not disappoint!

In true flamenco style there was plenty of passion, clapping, foot stamping, gun shots and murder! The tale was made even more dramatic by some spectacular sword fighting, which the students had received training for on the run up to the show. Daniel Davies who played Don Diego de la Vega (AKA Zorro) and Captain Ramon de la Vega, Zorro’s big brother and ultimate baddie, played by Matthew Hince, demonstrated the skills they had learnt in a thrilling and perfectly choreographed stage fight that brought the show to its climax and saw good triumph.

The cast, who had clearly worked hard on the production, held the audience’s attention with beautifully harmonised songs from Luisa, played by Kaleigh Pritchard and Inez, played by Kelsea Richardson. There were also some hilarious comedic Spanish accents, particularly from Tim Gilks who played Padre and Sargent Garcia, played by Milo Rodell John, who often illuminated the stage with his tongue in cheek humour and comedy timing.

Zorro was a night to remember for us and we feel sure, definitely a night to remember for the cast! Many will be leaving HCA this summer, singing “Bambalio” as they go and we wish them every success. With particular thanks to Church Street Charitable Trust and Scaffolding Services for their support and to all those involved in making the show happen – Olé!!
