This week has seen a moving forward in the Advanced Practice module. Maureen has been busy visiting a local sheep owner’s small holding, meeting the sheep and sourcing a wide range of fleece to use in her felt making. She has further explored both 3D and flat felt making this week and is excited about advancing her skill in developing texture, exploring surface and experimenting with the sourced fleece and hair in her work.

Ozzi has also had a great week at the forge and is exploring texture and mark making in forged figures. He has started to examine the pose and nuances of body language within the abstracted figure to convey emotion.

This Thursday we also got together as a group to discuss some excepts from Glenn Adamson’s Craft Reader published by BERG 2010. We looked at definitions of Craft, the characteristics of Craft, models of Craft production and the many roles and functions of Craft as well as contemporary trends, issues and debates within craft culture today. The plan is in future weeks we will each chose a text, journal article or maker interview that has informed our practice and share this with the rest of the group.
