We have been culture vultures this week and have been on a trip! Well, I say a trip, but really it was a grand tour (in a minibus) of three inspiring exhibitions in South Wales. Our first port of call was to see Shared Vision- an amazing and not to be missed exhibition by Amanda and Matt Caines. Connecting their practice is a shared passion to reconnect to a sense of “childlike wonder” with the natural world. The exhibition reflects a wonderful blending and mixing of their different skills which include carving, stitching, engraving, sculptures, jewellery, textiles and paintings which speak of not just a shared vision between these two makers but a shared vision with humanity and making- past and present.

Following the exhibition we were delighted to have a talk by Hywel Pontin director of Llantarnam Grange which forms part of our professional practice module, PG PP. He gave an informed and insightful presentation about how to apply for exhibitions and a range of other creative opportunities within the field of craft practice and cited key online platforms to access data as well as professional procedures to follow to maximise success. Leading on from the talk we had the opportunity to have a interesting and dynamic Q&A session. All in all, a great session!
