Llantarnam Grange Live Brief

This is a really exciting time for our second year students: We started the year with the Little Dewchurch live brief which is all about working to a client-led commission and now we have another live brief which this time is about working for galleries. With that in mind we headed off to Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre to look at both their retail and gallery spaces and to talk with Hwyel Pontin, the Director of the Arts Centre. He showed us around, gave a lecture about how to approach galleries, and introduced the live brief which is all about making forged objects for their retail space- a nice contrast to the Little Dewchurch live brief.

Forged objects often take a long time to make and therefore end up being really expensive. There are some great rules to this project: for starters items have to retail for under £150. It’s going to be a real challenge and lots of fun and there will be more photos and blogposts to follow.

Here are some of the students checking out both the retail and gallery spaces.
