We have nine MA Contemporary Crafts students and over the next few blog posts I’ll be introducing them to you all.

Reflecting on why she chose to do an MA Maureen writes:

“After recently completing a BA (Hons) in Textile design at HCA, I knew I wanted to continue exploring surface design and three dimensional form. The MA in Contemporary Crafts offered the opportunity to challenge boundaries and combine art, textiles and mixed media in a new and exciting way.”

Maureen outlines the focus of her MA project and creative practice:

“My work is based on nature’s architecture; on eco-systems and the life giving force and sanctuary of ancient woodlands. I am a textile artist using contemporary basketry techniques combined with felt, weave, stitch and complex surface manipulation to inform three dimensional art forms based on natural habitats, entomology and natural environments. My other interests include British history, folklore and sacred spaces. Underlying my creative practice is a lifelong interest in herbs and natural healing therapies. I use a combination of organic and earth found objects to dye my own materials and create eco prints that can be incorporated into installations, sculptures and hangings.”
