We have nine MA Contemporary Crafts students and over the next few blog posts I’ll be introducing them to you them all. Reflecting on why he choose to do an MA Bill writes :

“The primary reason for undertaking this MA is to achieve refinement in my professional practice. I aim to achieve this is through further exploration of glazes and their interaction with different clays. I want to gain greater knowledge of the base elements of glazes and their relationship to clay through systematic experimentation with compounds and temperatures. I want to be able to understand clay and glaze at a molecular level in order to manipulate and predict the outcome.

This will expand my understanding and greatly enhance the repertoire of finishes I can achieve with my work. An additional benefit of doing an MA Course is that it involves a lot of talking and interaction with others. As a naturally shy person this will be of great benefit if I end up teaching or demonstrating at craft fairs or exhibitions in the future.”
