Hiraeth – Rhian Wyn Jones Blog No 2

It’s less than a month since I last blogged about Rhian’s oyster shells. Rhian is inspired by the beach at Llanddwyn and is focussing on creating oyster shells from mild steel, bronze and copper. Her intention is both to explore the oyster shells as talismans and to create a series of installations on the beach.

Since the last blogpost Rhi has been back to Llanddwyn and photographed her shells on the beach. She has been negotiating a series of installations with Cadwu and it is now full steam ahead in terms of planning a series of installations .

For her recent summative assessment she chose to use the main hall to set up her work and I was so excited to see the pictures of the shells on the beach. Changing the context has transformed the objects and I can see lots of potential exploration possible between now and the degree Show. As part of her assessment Rhi presented a table full of oyster shells made from different metals. Her technical investigation within this module has been exemplary and everything is recorded in detail in her technical journals. Exciting times ahead!
