Anne Marie Dosett of Herefordshire Libraries has asked HCA Illustration students to create some images that could be used on the front of their new library cards. Anne Marie visited the college to explore possible starting points and themes for the illustrations. Her informative presentation demonstrated the extent to which the general public continue to interact with their local libraries. It is clear that many of them remain under threat of closure both locally and nationwide and it was hoped that this project might help to raise awareness of the importance of the local library within the community.

Apparently more people visit libraries annually than premier league football matches and the theatre put together. They provide services that go way beyond just the loan of a book and they remain important social spaces offering access to information on a range of important subjects. If you would like to help join the fight to keep them please visit The Library Campaign website to find out more.

The designs will be shown later in the year and into 2016 at Ross-on-Wye and Hereford City Libraries where the winning designs will be announced.
