2018 – HCA’s Young Photographer – Your invite to the Private View

Thank you to all of the fantastic entrants of this years HCA’s Young Photographer Competition!

We are delighted to invite you all to attend the private view of the exhibition on Thursday 22^nd March from 4.30pm-6pm, awards at 5pm, at our Folly Lane Campus.

This dynamic exhibition brings together the work of over 100 young photographers from across Herefordshire and boarding counties. With this year’s competition receiving an exceptionally high standard of work across all three categories the exhibition will showcase 9 overall winners and a select few of highly commended. We will also be exhibiting all entries digitally during the private view.

During this event, there will be an opportunity for you to try Cyanotype Printing, a traditional photographic process which is easy to do but provides great results which you can take home! 

Cyanotype printing is a photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print. Engineers used the process well into the 20th century as a simple and low-cost process to produce copies of drawings, referred to as blueprints. The English scientist and astronomer Sir John Herschel discovered the procedure in 1842. In 1843 Anna Atkins created a series of cyanotype limited-edition books that documented ferns and other plant life from her extensive collection by placing specimens directly onto the coated paper and allowing the action of light to create a silhouette effect. By using this photogram process, Anna Atkins is often considered the first female photographer. Below are some examples –
