Today was the day that Miranda Leonard and her colleague, Fran Spencer came to shortlist students to participate in this summer’s Fresh Air exhibition. The main hall was full, all the second year Blacksmiths and a few of the third year Blacksmiths had put together proposals. Each proposal included maquettes, design boards and short statements about their concepts and ideas.

Their feedback was very positive. They were impressed with the standard and breadth of work presented by the students. Unfortunately the student area is quite small so they needed to select just six or seven from over thirty-five proposals presented. We didn’t make their job very easy!

They shortlisted twelve by lunch, with each shortlisted student then having the opportunity to meet the curators and discuss the feasibility of constructing and making their pieces. Seven students from across CDC and Blacksmithing were selected. Selected Blacksmithing students include Christian Vaughan Jones, Aiden Beamish and Joel Black, and the students from CDC include Matthew Day, Ben Walker, Samantha McNamara and Ella Sibley Sparling. Congratulations to all seven students, this promises to be a really exciting opportunity! Thank you to all of the other students who worked so hard to pull together some very strong proposals that were not selected.
