Every year the AoC (Association of Colleges) presents nine gold awards at a grand reception in late June at the House of Commons. The AoC invites colleges to submit a maximum of two student entries per college to design and make the gold awards. This year we offered this as a live brief to our Artist Blacksmithing students.

Christian decided to take up the challenge and here he is about to send off his final design sheets to London for selection. Each design needs to include a gold component, and Christian chose to include brass pins in each of the nine designs.

AOC Award Designs

This is the first time that the College and the course has entered the live brief competition and we look forward to finding out whether Christian will be selected.

Recipients of the AoC Gold Award will have:

• attended college for a significant period
• acknowledged that they gained benefit from their time at college
• received public recognition
• continue to engage with the college and support current students
