Biography

Since 2010, Stevie’s journey at HCA has evolved from FE music student to dedicated educator. Inspired by HCA’s creative environment, she transitioned to teaching in 2013 and has remained passionately committed to the role for over a decade.

Her long-standing relationship with HCA has allowed her to become fully integrated into all aspects of college life, where she consistently strives to contribute positively to the community. 

Dedication to Education and Student Development 

Her core values as a teacher at HCA centre on nurturing and inspiring young people to reach their full potential. Stevie takes great pride in guiding students towards successful careers in the music industry. Through her teaching, she aims to create a supportive and stimulating learning environment that encourages creativity, resilience, and professional growth. 

In her role, she has had the privilege of running events modules with HE and FE Music Students, leveraging her extensive network within the local live performance scene. This has enabled her to create and provide numerous opportunities for students to showcase their talents, gain practical experience, and build confidence as emerging musicians. 

Professional Musicianship 

Parallel to her educational activities, Stevie maintains an active career as a professional musician. This dual engagement in education and performance enriches her teaching practice, ensuring that her students receive current and relevant insights into the music industry. Stevie’s professional work spans a diverse range of contexts, including session agency work, music workshops, music promotion, theatre, and show performances. 

Currently, Stevie performs as a bass guitarist with two dynamic live gigging bands: The Breaks, a 9-piece original Ska, Hip-hop Jazz Collective, and The Night Porters, a 4-piece function band. These bands navigate the ever-evolving music industry through various practical contexts, providing Stevie with first-hand experience that she brings back to her students. Additionally, she has been employed as a session musician for several blues-rock ensembles and has contributed to Bristol’s experimental music scene. 

Community Engagement and Industry Connections 

Stevie’s role at HCA and her involvement in the local music scene have afforded her numerous opportunities to foster connections and create platforms for emerging artists. Stevie is committed to bridging the gap between education and industry, offering students a pathway to professional success through practical experience and industry engagement.
