This is an opportunity to combine all your thinking and practice in initiating and developing a final major project within the area of your choice at Level 4 (the equivalent of first-year degree level work).

With confidence in the skills that you have learned, you will write and then realise a personal project over a series of 10 weeks working towards a personal goal of experimental or ‘finished’ work which will be showcased in a major public exhibition.

When I came here I had to think, 'ditch the exams and open up your mind'. You have to think about the art piece you're making and the reasons you're making it. I never had a chance to really think like that. It's opened up my artistic perspective in a way I didn't even think of before.

Diana Davidson - Foundation diploma, HCA / BA Fashion Design, Bath Spa

I went to an Illustration degree open day and felt almost out of my depth, that I didn't stand up to the art there. Then I learned about the Foundation course, and that it was free and it's really developed my confidence through trying lots of different things. Coming from a small A-level course, it's been noticeable how much inspiration is everywhere. I've made lots a great friends here and it's nice to be surrounded by art and not just thinking about it as I walk past the science rooms.

Theo Taylor-George - HCA Foundation diploma / BA Illustration

I didn't do art at GCSE or A-Level but I wanted to do something creative for a year, and keep my thinking really broad - and it's been such a creative year. The tutors have been so supportive and I feel like I've learned a lot. In our Moving Image rotation we made our own short films, and a collaborative film. Both of mine were selected for Open Screen at Borderlines Film Festival, where we then had a networking session run by BFI. It was a great opportunity.

Sylvie Symons - HCA, Foundation diploma

I did lots of workshops with the Photography degree staff - and that let me see what the course was like. During the course I've done film developing, I've worked in the studio, I've worked with old cameras and new cameras. I thought there was no way I'd have done a uni course - but now I really want to do it.

Josie Hart - Foundation diploma, HCA / BA Photography, HCA

The workshops for me have been a really stand-out part of my time here. You have all these opportunities to. work with really talented Technical Demonstrators who encourage you to try anything, to do anything. It was enormously important and enormously exciting.

Erin Jacques - Foundation diploma, HCA / BA 3D Effect for Performance and Fashion, London School of Fashion
