My favourite thing about the Textile Design course is the opportunities that we get to experiment with various disciplines within the textiles industry, and not being confined to chasing a specialism early on. We also have amazing visiting lectures that come in regularly, and we get the opportunity to meet with them and have one to one tutorials with them.

Studying at HCA is great – being at a college that is solely dedicated to the arts is amazing. There is a great creative community between the staff and the students. There are also so many opportunities that you can get whilst studying at HCA.

One of the best things about being at HCA is the community feeling that you get. As it’s a small college, you get to know a lot of people in and around the college and this feeling of a united arts community is great.

Some of my most proudest moments at HCA have been getting onto the SU, becoming the events officer, and hosting a really successful Freshers’ Week and end of term parties. I have also had successes within my own work: one of the opportunities we have had as part of our course was an industry brief which was a competition and I was fortunate enough to win it. My prize was a two week work placement with the company, which is helping me to gain access and experience in the industry.

The SU is an amazing opportunity to work with new people and to challenge yourself. It’s been really valuable to me to develop and learn these skills by being a member of the SU. Being able to make a difference within the college is important to both the students and staff – the SU is a key part of that and it’s been great to be involved.
