Why did you choose HCA for your degree?

I chose HCA because it had a good atmosphere when I first visited on an open day – I also liked that it was dedicated to the arts. The smaller class sizes and having my own desk space also weighed on my decision to choose HCA as opposed to other universities.

What do you love most about the course?

I love that I have had the chance to collaborate, push my printing skills and found a new love of book arts! Overall, I have had a real insight to how the Illustration industry works, and there has been some amazing guest lecturers and live briefs during my time here.

The trips I have been on have led to great opportunities. After visiting Lisbon in first year, in my second year I applied for the Sir Roy Strong and Julia Trevelyan award, and with that funding I went back to Lisbon and went to Porto, researching the illustration industry there, meeting illustrators and going to print studios.

What advice would you offer students joining HCA?

Be involved. Make use of the workshops, studios and the library!

What is the best thing about living/studying in Hereford?

Living and studying in Hereford is great, it is a welcoming place in a picturesque setting. I am glad I choose to live here rather than commuting in from Worcester – it has given me the whole university experience and many good memories.

What are your plans for the future?

My plan for the future is to work as a freelance Illustrator, also maybe one day to run my own print studio/gallery space.
