My work explores self representation, but also identity construction within culture. I believe much of what we experience is internalised, and by nature, hidden. That inner life is as real, for me, as the concrete world we exist in.

Enquiry into past events leads on to work which needs to be ‘read’ rather than viewed aesthetically. I select media for a piece, by deciding what works best to convey a specific meaning. My work often begins with a sentence or concept which triggers exploration and a visual consequence.

My current work explores a childhood relationship with toys, and the ability of these to both sooth and absorb childhood concerns and emotions.
