Hannah Day (L6)BA (Hons) Contemporary Design Crafts
Hannah produces concept-driven hand-built clay pieces using found objects as a starting point, incorporating textiles and other materials into the finished pieces. Her work relates to our belongings and their importance to us, and she has a particular interest in the exploration of evocative objects as memory prompts and aids to self-understanding.
This work, “Barbara”, is a response to a collection of objects which belonged to a relative of Hannah’s, and developed as a result of an intimate examination of and interaction with the objects. The process enabled Barbara’s own voice to be heard, and a portrait of her life revealed. The new work is intended both as a memorial to Barbara, and as a recognition of the importance of our belongings in life and death.
