As part of the Aspire team who operate Station Approach, Kath plays a big part in helping students with their initial accommodation application and then settle into their new homes and in supporting them through their time staying in the accommodation.

Kath is based on-site at the Station Approach from Monday to Friday between the hours of 9.00 and 17.00.

As well as managing the day-to-day running of the accommodation, Kath receives postal deliveries for residents and is on hand to help with any questions or issues that come up about the facilities.

We caught up with Kath to find out more about her role at Station Approach, and what she enjoys about it.

Q: How long have you been working at Station Approach?

Since opening the building in 2021 but I have been with Aspire Student Living since 2018.

Q: What is your favourite part of the job?

Interaction with the students and getting to know them! Also I enjoy seeing how they progress and how they grow in confidence.

Q: What tip would you give to students moving away from home for the first time?

To feel confident that they are choosing the right course and getting to meet new students and making long term friendships. Make the most of the full open day in August – explore the accommodation and the local area.

What small/everyday items do students forget to pack?

I think it’s sometimes a case of overpacking! It is not often they forget anything, they always bring too much!

Q: What is the students’ favorite feature of Station Approach?

I would say it’s the communal areas and the location – we are super close to HCA and the local Hereford amenities.

What is the most common question you get asked by students?

Has my parcel arrived yet?!

Q: Safety is a big consideration for all students - what rules or safety features are in place to ensure residents feel comfortable and secure?

We have an out-of-hours policy so that students know that there is always someone that they can call after the office is closed. Our Senior Residents play a big part in this process.

What is your favourite memory of HCA students?

I do have several, one is seeing incredible changes students with additional needs, them gaining confidence and sitting and talking to me when they initially were quite withdrawn.

Other memories are seeing them mature and becoming young adults and enjoying HCA and their time at No.1 Station Approach.

Q: How does Station Approach help students live within their budgets?

They are aware that all bills are included and good local supermarkets and transport links. There aren’t any hidden fees and their rent is due conveniently when they receive their student loans.

Q: How would you describe the community of students at Station Approach?

There is good community spirit to feel that the students create. I am hoping this year they will look to utilise the common room for some organised nights – there is already talk of a music night which sounds great!
