Educational Background
Leo began his academic journey in the arts by studying Art Foundation at Camberwell College of Arts. He then pursued a BSc in History and Politics at the University of Bradford, where he broadened his understanding of the socio-political landscape. His passion for audio led him to the University of Westminster, where he completed his MA in Audio Production.
Early Career
After university, Leo embarked on a multifaceted career. He worked as an assistant designer for a plastics specialist in London, while simultaneously performing as a vocalist, keyboard player, and guitarist with the Roots Manuva backing band. This blend of design and performance provided him with a unique perspective on both the technical and artistic aspects of music.
Teaching and Industry Experience
Leo's expertise in audio production and performance led him to various teaching roles. He has taught at Hackney Community College, the Brit School for Performing Arts, and Rising Tide at the Ocean Music Venue. His teaching focuses on audio production, the music industry, and group performance, with a particular interest in the crossover between these disciplines and the integration of digital applications.
Professional Achievements
Leo has worked as a sound engineer at the Premises recording studio in London, where he produced releases featuring members of Mercury Prize nominees such as Polar Bear, the Invisible, and Roots Manuva. His deep understanding of audio production and the music industry has made him a valuable asset in these roles.
Teaching at the College
Since 2008, Leo has been a full-time instructor at the College, primarily working with first and second-year music diploma students. He also supports students with external projects, emphasizing their importance for career development. His dedication to teaching and mentoring helps students navigate the complex landscape of the music industry.
Ongoing Musical Endeavours
Leo continues to be actively involved in the music scene. He is a music producer, vocalist, and guitar player with the folk-blues group Librarian, the acoustic trio the Mores, and the electro-rock band the Invisible. In recent years, he has released a seven-inch vinyl with Forte Distribution, performed across England, and recorded at the RNB.
