New bursary to support access to degrees for Herefordshire students

The Herefordshire Futures Bursary supports Herefordshire college leavers and career changers to participate in higher education. 

Supported by the Herefordshire Council, The Herefordshire Futures Bursary provides £1,000 per year of a full-time undergraduate degree programme (up to a maximum of £3,000) distributed in annual payments of £1,000 (£500 if part time) throughout your Higher Education programme at HCA. 

The bursary aims to help change the lives of residents in some of Herefordshire’s most deprived areas as defined by national data. Other Herefordshire residents facing financial barriers to participation in higher education may also be eligible.

Those wishing to be considered for the bursary must have applied to HCA and accepted a place by Friday September 18th for 2026 enrolment.    Applications should be submitted by end of September.   

 

Eligibility Criteria and Evidence requirements:

  • Permanently reside in Herefordshire
  • Have enrolled onto an undergraduate degree course at HCA starting September 2026. 
  • Be studying an undergraduate degree course for the first time in September 2026.
    Priorities for selection include 
  • Residents in some of Herefordshire’s most disadvantaged areas as determined by national data - the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD25)* lower quartiles 1 and 2 
  • Applicants with a household income below £25,000 per annum in receipt of the full Higher Education Maintenance Loan
     

To apply for the Herefordshire Futures Bursary, please email the following information to finance@hca.ac.uk by 30 September 2026:     

  1. A statement (300 words or less) explaining how the Herefordshire Futures Bursary will make a difference to you and your ability to study at Hereford College of Arts and your achieving work/career ambitions. Please also include anything else that you think will be relevant.
  2. Evidence of your permanent Herefordshire address will need to be supplied when you enrol with the College.
  3. Evidence of your household income, (priority will be given to those with £25,000 per annum or less). Please supply your Student Loans Company notification showing what maintenance loan you will be in receipt of. 

 

All applications will be reviewed by an assessment panel whose decision will be final.

Students who are successful in receiving this award will be required to provide a brief annual update on your progress and experience at HCA.
